The Paper Patriot Society's aims are in keeping with the belief that the Human Spirit is, and of right ought to be, something to be cultivated, grown, nurtured, challenged, and expanded. Among the various aims which we will pursue, it will be our duty and intent to:
Develop ethical remedies for social and institutional corruption;
Promote moral restraint amongst those who would engage in physical violence before seeking peaceful solutions;
Encourage social reflection over selfish impulse;
Clearly identify enemies of Liberty and Peace and limit their access and ability to exercise arbitrary power.
This is not an exhaustive list of where our focus may lie, but hopefully it sets the tone for the attitude we might expect our members to develop.
Fundamental to our mission is the belief that the Reason and Moral fiber codified in the Constitution for the United States of America and its subsequent Bill of Rights have been, and are yet, the most perfect form of government that has yet been achieved on the face of the earth; that its administration, and not its principles, have been corrupted by weak stewards and commandeered by persons who seek to control the human condition rather than improve it.
Society members sense the warmth of high ideals and wish to bring them to the forefront of their lives and national discourse. They seek humility and an honest regard for one another. They acknowledge the struggle inherent to living in peace with neighbors who have differences in taste and culture. They bravely, but peacefully, engage neighbors who hold as sacred things alien to their own experience and convictions. They sustain the form of government established by the Constitution as the most effective framework for seeking and sustaining that peace.
Members of The Paper Patriot Society commit themselves to the Struggle for Peace without reservation. John F. Kennedy once said:
[No one can safely] continue to pursue his private comforts unconcerned with America's challenges and dangers. For, if freedom is to survive and prosper, it will require the sacrifice, the effort and the thoughtful attention of every citizen... Today we need a nation of minute men; citizens who are not only prepared to take up arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as a basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom. The cause of liberty, the cause of America, cannot succeed with any lesser effort.
Regardless of how his politics may sit with the reader, the sentiment is sound. We must be active in our communities and spheres of influence. We must be vigilant in guarding against threats to our freedom. We must be brave in establishing better thoughts, practices, policies, and even people, in positions of influence and responsibility.
